A jewellery or garment exporter may commit to materials and processing before inspection, shipment and collection. An engineering business may depend on testing or a project milestone. Where the group is planning an acquisition, premises or a promoter exit, separate the completion budget from the working capital needed to keep current orders running.
Use ownership, buyer acceptance and business-specific cash margins to define the requirement, with prospective regional opportunities outside the base exit.
Inventory needs a usable cash value
Stock in the accounts can include very different levels of liquidity. High-value or design-specific goods may be owned, consigned or reserved for a buyer under different commercial rights. Age the material by product and stage, identify customer-specific or slow-moving items and reconcile physical quantities with existing lender reports. A funding plan should use conservative saleable values and actual ownership, while allowing for the next procurement cycle after the proposed borrowing is repaid.
Export receipts need document and buyer review
An export sale involves buyer risk as well as dispatch performance. Inspection, shipping documents and customer terms can affect when an overseas receipt becomes payable. Check payment terms, shipping evidence, document discrepancies, possible deductions and the currency of the receipt. Separate an accepted receivable from an unshipped order. Trade structures should be assessed against the actual documents and existing bank arrangements, without assuming every export invoice can be discounted.
The borrowing company must own its cash flows
A group presentation can hide differences between the operating unit, asset owner and customer-facing company. Regional management may coordinate businesses whose stock, contracts and security belong to different entities. Map inter-company balances, guarantees and existing security before proposing finance. The entity seeking money should explain its lawful use and repayment source. Cash held elsewhere in the group is useful only where transfer, approvals and lender restrictions have been examined.
